Our Seminars
Presented
by James David Smith along with associates and professionals,
our seminars are not infomercials or advertorials. Avoiding brand
references,
subject matter is presented factually and generically
to provide an overview of radio and battery fundamentals, and safety
of wireless
systems. The pros and cons of various commercial wireless
approaches are discussed, along with hints for the do-it-yourselfer.
Wireless
Dimming
This
90-minute presentation provides insight and assistance with wireless
techniques, battery types, charging and charge cycles, safe operation
of DC systems at high amperages, and more. Attendees will discover
how to specify wireless dimming for their shows, ensure superb
performance and reliability, and avoid various pitfalls and hazards. Read
a detailed seminar outline.
Wireless
Remote Control for Dimming, Motion, and Stage Effects
Attendees
will learn about the unique challenges of using wireless
for motion control as well as lighting, with special consideration
of fail-safes,
redundancy, and emergency stop (E-Stop) methods. Radio
remote control is used every day to control full-size locomotives
in train yards,
and huge crains on construction sites. Discover the safety
precautions used in these applications, and how to apply them to
theatrical
projects.
Wireless DMX and Dimming in Practice
Presented
by:
-

With
Special Guests:
-

Wireless
dimming – battery-powered, dmx-controlled, completely
untethered lighting in props, sets, and costumes – has
made its way into hundreds of productions in just the past year.
Similarly,
wireless DMX has pushed traditional fixtures into unusual positions
in the house; touring shows are setting up faster than ever;
and portable churches have never been so portable.
This
is our 4th annual session at USITT. Even if you’ve attended
in the past, please come again – there’s always something
new, and a refresher never hurts!
As
always, James David Smith of RC4 Wireless and Ian Phillips of
Shaw Festival battle out wireless theory vs. practice as they
discuss:
-
digital
radio-frequency technology (frequencies, bandwidth, interference)
-
primary
and rechargeable battery technology (NiCD, NiMH, SLA, and
more)
-
lamps,
LEDs, motors, and other loads suitable for low-voltage systems
-
safety
considerations, particularly in wireless motion-control
And
for the first time, guest designers and electricians discuss
how they incorporate wireless dimming and wireless DMX into their
work. Innovators in the field introduce their work and the design
process that lead them to using wireless.
There’s a lot of ground to cover in only 90 minutes, so this is a fast-paced
session. Questions are openly invited throughout – we are happy to steer
our content towards the needs and interests of attendees.
We
look forward to seeing you at USITT Stage Expo. Thank you for
your time!
