Sometimes You Want an External Antenna
The RC4Magic Series 2 DMXio-HG is identical to the DMXio, but with an external R-SMA connector and antenna. Most users do not require this option; the standard DMXio is very effective without a protruding antenna.
But there are circumstances where the DMXio-HG is very handy, including:
- When the unit is installed in a rack with the antenna on the outside.
- When specialized antennas are desirable, for example, when sending DMX between two buildings, or across a river. Directional antennas focus RF energy in one direction, but also require precise aim. Higher gain antennas can provide improved range in some (limited) cases.
- The unit is mounted inside a metal set-piece or scenery, or in a position that would benefit from having the antenna elsewhere.
- Special cases where a signal amplifier may be used to enhance performance (where permitted).
Before ordering the DMXio-HG, feel free to contact us about your specific application needs. There is no need to purchase this unit “just to be safe” — the standard DMXio is the best choice in the majority of cases.
